The Hands That Feed Us: A reflection-based curriculum grounding students in their communities through food 

Born from the challenge of deeply connecting and supporting students after the 2020 fires and pandemic school closures. The Hands That Feed Us curriculum provides a new approach to food and garden education. Where students dive into themes of Gratitude, Connection, Empathy, Community, Resilience, Inclusion, Justice, and Self-reflection as they learn about the food system and the role that they play in it. 

The Hands that Feed was developed to be used in any setting with any elementary group of students. Lessons help teachers meet educational goals in math, science, reading and writing, while at the same time delving deeply into social emotional learning and rich discussions about social justice. Standards-aligned for grades 3-5, with extensions for in-garden activities, cooking/tasting projects and a literacy connection in each seasonal lesson.

The curriculum package consists of 16 seasonal lessons with a digital teacher guide and corresponding bilingual (English/Spanish) student activity book.
